Castle Espie Collaboration 2024
This year North Down Craft Collective will be working in collaboration with WWT Castle Espie bringing monthly craft pop-ups and art & craft fairs to the visitor centre at Ballydrain Road, Comber. Many of the collective's artists and makers take their inspiration from the landscape and wildlife in the Ards and North Down borough and these pieces will take up a large part of the work on show at Castle Espie. Making Paper Birds – Adele Pound Art
Make your own paper bird decorations with artist, Adele Pound! Following instructions and demonstrations, participants will learn simple paper cutting and folding techniques in order to cut and assemble a paper bird decoration. Dorset Button Making with Debbie McCann – Wee Yarn Designs
Dorset Button making began in the 1600s in Shaftsbury, Dorset. It became a thriving cottage industry promoting independence and security for many women and families. Sadly, the introduction of the button making machine in 1851 caused the industry to go into decline. Dorset Button making is now considered a heritage craft, and once mastered can be adapted to create everything from beautiful buttons to jewellery and decorative art.
